IT consulting services

Get an independent view on a technology decision

Our IT consulting services help Australian businesses investigate a technology issue, compare the options and document a practical recommendation or plan.

Issues we can help with

01

System and architecture review

Understand how a current system works, where it is fragile and which changes deserve priority.

02

Product and vendor decisions

Compare products, custom software, integrations and process changes using the same requirements and full ongoing cost.

03

Integration and data review

Map the information each system exchanges, its owner and the response to a failed transfer.

04

Project review

Review a stalled, unclear or underperforming project and explain what to do next.

What you receive

There is no fixed session length or standard report. We agree the question, information needed and what you want to receive.

The result may be a short decision record, findings and recommendations, a system or process map, an option comparison, a plan or an implementation brief.

Questions

Questions people ask us

What does an IT consultant actually do?
Looks at what you have, what it costs and where the work gets stuck, then tells you what to fix first and what to leave alone. You get a written plan you can take to any supplier, including ones that are not us.
How is this different from a managed service provider?
An MSP runs your technology day to day. We do not do that. We are who you call before you sign with one, or when what they are doing has stopped adding up, and we take no commission on anything we recommend.
Do you provide IT support or a helpdesk?
No. No printers, password resets, server patching or network monitoring. Plenty of Melbourne companies do that well and we will point you at one.
What does an IT strategy contain?
Where you are, what the business is trying to do, where the gap is, what to do in order, what you are deliberately not doing, and how you will know it worked. For a business under a hundred people that is about eight pages, not eighty.
We have three quotes recommending different things. Can you help us choose?
Yes, and it is one of the more useful things we do. We will read them, tell you what each would actually get you, and put them against the same criteria so they can be compared properly.
How much does it cost?
Less than the first month of most of the things you might be about to buy. We will give you a range in the first conversation and the output is portable, so it is not money spent to get locked into us.
What is the first thing you usually find?
Something critical that only one person understands, and it is almost never on a risk register. After that it is subscriptions nobody remembers signing up for, and two systems that should talk and do not.
Do you sell the software you recommend?
No. We resell nothing and take no vendor commissions. Our bias is toward work we could do ourselves, and you should read our advice knowing that, the same as you should with anyone else's.
