Questions

Questions people ask us

How long does a website take to build?
A straightforward marketing site is usually six to ten weeks from kick-off. The build is rarely what holds it up. Waiting on content and photography is, which is why we ask about those in the first conversation rather than at week four.
What platform do you build on?
WordPress when your team needs to edit constantly and the requirements are ordinary, a modern framework when speed matters or the site does more than publish pages, and occasionally something you already own if it is working. We are not tied to one.
Do you look after the site after it launches?
Yes, as part of what we build. Hosting, updates, security and small changes. We do not take on standalone hosting management for sites we did not build unless other work comes with it.
Will a rebuild hurt my search rankings?
It can, and it is preventable. Rankings get lost when URLs change and the redirects are partial. Export every URL and its traffic before anything starts, then map each old address to a new one, with the highest-traffic pages handled individually.
Can my team update the site ourselves?
Yes, and it matters more than people expect. A site your team cannot edit goes stale within a year. We set up the CMS around the changes you will actually make and show your people how, rather than handing over a manual.
Do you write the content?
Not usually. We will tell you what each page needs to do and roughly how long it should be, and we can bring in a writer if you want one. Content is the most common reason a build slips, so it is worth deciding early who owns it.
What makes a website expensive?
Unique page designs, missing content and photography, and how many systems the site has to talk to. A form that just sends an email is cheap. A form that has to reach your CRM, create a record and handle the failure when it does not is a different job.
